Alexis Johnson Named CIAA Player & Defensive Player of the Year (852 hits)
Virginia Union University's Alexis Johnson has been named the CIAA Player of the Year and the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, the CIAA announced at the CIAA Awards Luncheon on Monday, February 26, in Charlotte, N.C.
Johnson, a senior from Hamilton, N.J., led the Lady Panthers in scoring with a 17.0 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game. She is also 10th in the nation with an average of 3.2 blocks per game.
Johnson is also the second VUU player to win both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. VUU's Lady Walker won both awards last season.
It is only the third time in CIAA women's basketball history where a single player has won both awards. Celeste Trahan of Elizabeth City State University won both awards in 2008.
Virginia Union begins play in the 2018 CIAA Tournament at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, in Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.
