Vice President - Chief Diversity Officer

Opportunity Statement
Azusa Pacific University invites applications and nominations for the Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer. The VP/CDO is a cabinet-level position and reports to the President and Provost, leading institutional change and educational effectiveness by cultivating organizational capacity for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The VP/CDO will cast a strategic vision (in collaboration with university leaders, faculty, students, and staff) for institutional thriving utilizing the indicators of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The VP/CDO will have oversight of creating policies, overseeing programing, and fostering an inclusive campus atmosphere in which everyone can thrive. This will be accomplished in partnership with various campus constituents to cultivate and strengthen an inclusive and equitable campus environment.

Candidates with an earned doctorate (EdD or PhD) in the social sciences, higher education, ethnic studies, or a related field from an accredited institution are invited to apply. The candidate should have a minimum of five years of diversity education including working with budgets and managing staff in an institution of higher education is required. Candidates should also possess an active involvement in diversity and inclusion research and scholarship. A commitment to the spiritual mission of Azusa Pacific University, specifically as this relates to diversity and racial reconciliation, is essential.

Additional vital elements of this strategic role include:
* Hire, supervise, and collaborate with executive directors from the Student Center for Reconciliation and Diversity and Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence;
* Represent the president and university on diversity matters, internally and externally;
* Cultivate an interactive and accessible relationship with Academic Cabinet, Presidentís Council, Provost Staff, and Office of the President members;
* Support and encourage strategic diversity goals for the university;
* Manage the universityís bias incident reporting system;
* Develop a strategic framework to prevent, reduce, and respond to any incidents of bias or hate;
* Chair the Diversity Collaboration Committee and serve on other relevant councils;
* Oversee periodic university-wide diversity campus climate studies and other assessment of diversity initiatives;
* Plan an annual diversity Leadership Summit training;
* Engage with students, staff, faculty, administration, board members, and external constituents;

A successful candidate should also demonstrate cultural humility along with being comfortable in building relationships of trust with various communities and constituencies that comprise the university Ė s/he understands the contexts and cultures within the institution that impact the implementation and management of effective diversity change efforts. Candidates will exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to inspire and influence others Ė possessing well developed problem-solving skills and be adept in finding win-win solutions to difficult problems, building consensus and support, and reconciling competing interests. Further, a passion for creating a diverse and inclusive university Ė a willingness to challenge and engage in weaving a web of support for all constituents should be evident.
