Job Description
Civil Designer

If you are out of the area and interested in relocating to the beautiful Pacific NW for this opportunity, relocation assistance may be provided!

Otak is hiring multiple Civil Designers! Come join our diverse, thriving civil engineering practice and use your expertise in successfully undertaking land development and/or public transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Metro area. This position will work on multi-disciplinary projects where you will use your engineering judgment to transform design concepts into construction drawings and technical specifications. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with an enthusiastic, team-oriented attitude!

This position can be based in our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office. Occasional travel between offices may be necessary for design team collaboration and/or client meetings.

Otak is an integrated multi-disciplinary design firm, you will have the opportunity to partner with our architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, surveyors and support staff, who all share a desire to blend an innovative approach to creating mindful designs.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the civil design team with the preparation of standard engineering documents, calculations, using AutoCAD/Civil 3D for design/drafting purposes.
  • Perform civil design tasks related to site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control or
  • Perform transportation infrastructure tasks related to roadway design, water and sanitary sewer design, active transportation, pedestrian and bike access, and Safe Routes to Schools.
  • Prepare construction plans using AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Prepare cost estimates and technical specifications (if necessary).
  • Provide construction support services.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent education is required.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of professional work experience with an emphasis on civil design for land development or transportation infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience with latest AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.
