Job Description
Construction Project Engineer

Otak is seeking to hire a Construction Project Engineer for our growing team! This person's overall responsibilities will include construction contract administration on primarily transportation projects on representing government agencies, such as CDOT, counties and municipalities. We are looking for an individual with a great work ethic, dependability, and a desire to work for a great employee-centric company.

Otak employs staff skilled in construction management, inspection, administration, and engineering support. Our technical experts excel in implementing front-line techniques and methodologies to ensure successful project completion and client satisfaction.

This is a full-time position. Typical work locations will be in the Denver/Boulder metropolitan area, but travel may be required depending on the project assignment and hours may vary.

This position can be based our of our Louisville or Denver location.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and contractors in a project first approach.
  • Assist in resolving construction challenges by anticipating potential issues, proposing solutions and clarifying plans and specifications.
  • Conduct and facilitate inspections of infrastructure construction projects and materials to ensure compliance with approved construction plans, specifications and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform both in the office and in the field contract administration duties including review and interpretation of plans, specifications and other contract documents, documentation of contractor activities, track quantities for payment, change management, supervise, and assign work to team members, evaluate contractor schedules, and provide outstanding service to clients.
  • Maintain detailed records of construction actives including but not limited to safety concerns, contractor onsite personnel, equipment, construction methods, work zone traffic control, and stormwater and erosion control measures. Prepare project documentation in accordance with CDOT, FHWA and/or local agency guidelines.
  • Evaluate, review and negotiate change order requests.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or related program from an accredited institution and be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado or be able to obtain licensure within 6 months.
  • A minimum of 8 years progressive experience in inspection and construction management of public projects.
  • Preferred candidate will have 10 or more years of experience as a Construction Manager with knowledge of material properties, CDOT specifications and contract administration practices.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with current construction observation reporting and procedure requirements for CDOT, Federal Aid, and other government agency projects.
  • Preferred CDOT Class/Certifications for: Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor (CDOT), Traffic Control Supervisor, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading, Basic Construction Surveying (These can be substituted with Professional Engineering License or Engineering Degree from accredited institution).

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.

Salary range: $95,000 - $125,000 per year.
