Come join our diverse, thriving transportation, infrastructure, and active transportation engineering practice and use your expertise in successfully undertaking public transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Metro and Pacific Northwest area. This position will work on multi-disciplinary projects where you will use your engineering judgment to transform design concepts into construction drawings and technical specifications. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with an enthusiastic, team-oriented attitude!

This position can be based in our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office. Occasional travel between offices may be necessary for team collaboration and/or client meetings.

Because Otak is an integrated multi-disciplinary design firm, you will have the opportunity to partner with our architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, surveyors and support staff, who all share a desire to blend an innovative approach to creating mindful designs.

What you'll do:

  • Lead, collaborate, prepare, design, and oversee transportation infrastructure projects related to roadway design, active transportation, pedestrian and bike access, utilities, water and sanitary sewer design, and Safe Routes to Schools.
  • Prepare construction plans using Autodesk Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation software.
  • Prepare specifications and cost estimates for projects.
  • Analyze reports, drawings, maps, and record drawings.
  • Provide construction support services responding to contractor RFIs, submittal reviews, as-built drawings, and field observations.
  • Provide document review and apply Otak's quality assurance/quality control procedures on projects.
  • Work with the team on all aspects of projects including developing proposals, project set-up, drafting, design, quality control, coordination, and collaboration.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Deliver excellence to local and state agencies on project work including delivering on-time, on-budget, and quality products that meet or exceed the industry's standard of care.
  • Develop and assist with community engagement strategies and presentations.
  • Maintain positive client and team relationships through conflict resolution, solutions, communication, and coordination.

What you'll bring:

  • Must have minimum five (5) years of professional related work experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent education is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing is required. Current PE license in Oregon or Washington is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with latest Autodesk Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passion for transportation, active transportation, and infrastructure projects and service to public agencies and communities.

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.
