Job Description
Junior-Level Geomorphologist

We are looking to hire a highly motivated, Junior-Level Geomorphologist to join our Water & Natural Resources (WNR) team in our Redmond office. This position will focus on fluvial geomorphology and support a wide spectrum of watershed and river science/engineering projects throughout Washington and Oregon. This position will work closely with our inhouse water resources engineers, biologists, and geomorphologists. Current work will include opportunities to work with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects under a multi-year contract for replacement of culverts for fish passage across the Puget Sound region.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, including fieldwork experience. Typical project responsibilities may include: geomorphic assessments; hydrologic, hydraulic, and sediment transport analyses; watershed studies; channel migration zone/flood hazard mapping; and support of stream and river restoration designs.

What you'll do:

  • Collect and analyze data, perform hydraulic and geomorphic design calculations, write reports, and support design drawings and specifications.
  • Compile, synthesize, and interpret scientific research/data and communicate findings, including at layman's level.
  • Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and geomorphic modeling, utilizing water resources models such as HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), SRH-2D, etc.
  • Conduct field work in stream and riverine settings.
  • Prepare geomorphology documents/documentation, floodplain and watershed study reports, and technical memoranda.
  • Collaborate with management or designated team leader to keep parties informed of progress; identify problem issues and communicate impact to the team; seek clarity when necessary

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geomorphology, hydrogeological sciences, or related field is required.
  • Must have Geologist-in-Training (GIT) or goal to obtain GIT within first year per Washington State Geologist Licensing Board Requirements (https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/geologist/index.html) with track of becoming a Licensed Geologist (LG) after gaining 5 years of experience (per State of Washington requirements).
  • Completed necessary college-level course to work to qualify as a GIT (per State of Washington requirements).
  • Must have strong scientific background with experience applying analytical and quantitative skills for fluvial process understanding.
  • Graduate degree(s) favorable, not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with HEC RAS and SRH-2D models, and AutoCAD a plus.

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.
