Operational Excellence Specialist I

Operational Excellence Specialist

In this role you would drive continuous improvement activities and implement solutions at a site level. We direct these activities through the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System, a system that incorporates Lean and other validated industry practices. By promoting use of the PPI Business System, you could enable profitable growth, intensify the customer experience across all site processes and increase employee engagement. To achieve this, you would collaborate with key partners to identify and implement continuous improvement projects using Lean fundamentals such as visual management/5S, process mapping, standard work, metric boards and Kaizens.

How will you make an impact?

Learning and application of Practical Process Improvement principles in three key areas:

  • Lean Thinking and industry practices (Shingo, Lean Enterprise Institute, Toyota Production System).
  • Thermo Fisher Scientific adaptation of Lean principles to PPI-specific tools and techniques with appropriate application.
  • The human factor – Soft skills to drive cultural change toward Lean principles and solution of daily problems then working with departments to implement identified solutions.

What will you do?

  • Facilitate PPI workshops and activities.
  • Capture data then present information as needed to prepare for PPI workshops.
  • Apply and improve PPI tools.
  • Work with the expanded team to develop, promote and standardize PPI Business System.
  • Proactively work with internal customers and peers to identify then drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the implementation of identified solutions.
  • Other duties as they arise.

How will you get here?

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required with focus in science, engineering, or related field preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and meaningful work experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years working with teams in a professional environment.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Understanding of basic principles of Lean or PPI
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Experience with any or all stages of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process (development, manufacturing, quality, laboratory, supply chain)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proven decision making capabilities.
  • Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to balance/maintain conflicting goals, responsibilities, and priorities of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, as well as the ability to empower and lead.
  • Familiar/proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Share point)
  • Proficiency with the English language, both written and verbal.
