TOOL #1: INITIATIVE - BE AN ENTREPRENEUR THIS YEAR
Posted By: Elynor Moss on November 18, 2011 By Jabria Earl Get to know our featured entrepreneur: NaAsiaha Simon the founder of "I Love My HBCU" T-shirts! I caught up with NaAsiaha and got the scoop on the newest, hottest item to hit campuses everywhere: What is the name of your t-shirt line? The name of the t-shirt line is I LOVE MY HBCU What does it mean? I LOVE MY HBCU means you love your historically black college/ university. It is a way to show school pride on a level above just singling out your school but black schools and black education as a whole. Why do you love your hbcu? I love my hbcu because of so many reasons. Wilberforce University has so much history and a beautiful heritage. Not everyone is given the opportunity or privilege to say, “I am a Wilberforce student”. It is an honor to attend the first and oldest private historically black university. Wilberforce has transformed me into an effective leader, and productive African-American young woman in today’s society. How did you formulate this idea? The idea was formulated by Mikel Williams and me. It was during a time when we were in the processing stage of The Home Depot Project “Retool Your School” contest and our annual Dawn Dance. We thought it would be a great idea to make shirts to symbolize unity and have an expression of how we feel about our school. Where and how can they be purchased? Go on to Facebook and like the I LOVE MY HBCU page, and look at the different designs. The information to purchase a t-shirt is on the page and I’m currently in the process of making an I LOVE MY HBCU website. Are there any public figures that you wish to join your team? Anyone who supports historically black colleges and universities; President Barack Obama , Bill Cosby, Taraji P. Henson , Tom Joyner, Spike Lee, Oprah, Kwame Kilpatrick, Michael Clark-Duncan, Common, Debbie Allen, Nikki Giovanni just to name a few public figures but so many more come to mind. You can purchase your own I LOVE MY HBCU t-shirt in various colors, school colors, and Greek colors. Just jump on facebook.com/ILOVEMYHBCU.
