The Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) invites you to join us for our 63rd annual Fall Convocation. The virtual celebration will air on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. ET and broadcast live via ITC’s Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/itcatlanta – and YouTube channel.

Convocation at the ITC signifies the start of the academic year and serves as an opportunity to welcome new students to the ITC community, symbolized by the Sankofa Passage. This year we will gather to engage the theme, “The Legacy of Black Women: Prophetic Problem Solvers Past and Present.”

“Convocation is a momentous time at the ITC. For 63 years, ITC’s students have answered God’s call, bringing their ancestors’ legacies and the urgent issues of their communities as they enter this journey of learning,” stated ITC Vice President of Academic Affairs/Interim Provost, Dr. Reginaldo P. Braga Jr. “They are committed to becoming prophetic problem solvers. Indeed, Convocation is the ITC that we make together.”

This year’s featured speaker will be Rev. Dr. Gina M. Stewart, ’07, President of Lott Carey and Senior Pastor of Christ Missionary Baptist Church (Memphis, Tennessee). Dr. Stewart is a proud alumna of the ITC’s 2007 class, graduating with a Doctor of Ministry degree. She embodies ITC’s mission to cultivate women and men who practice justice and peace through a liberating and transforming spirituality. In March of 1995, Dr. Stewart became the first woman to be elected senior pastor of her mother church Christ Missionary Baptist Church, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was also the first woman elected to lead a Black Baptist congregation in Memphis and Shelby County. Since then, she has distinguished herself as a caring pastor, prophetic preacher, and transformative leader in the Memphis community and beyond. Under Dr. Stewart’s leadership, Christ’s church has grown numerically, physically, and financially.

It now offers more than fifty ministries that address the spirit, soul, body, community, and social issues.
This year’s convocation theme celebrates the narrative of black women; their faith-rooted resilience and their leadership in community organizing and social change. The theme is consistent with the ITC’s mission to cultivate a new generation of prophetic problem solvers. In concert with advocacy and protest, prophetic leaders seek to build solutions. They imagine and design alternatives to the status quo. This is the kind of leadership the ITC 2.0 seeks to cultivate.

About the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC)
Founded in 1958, the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) is a historically African American theological consortium located in the heart of Atlanta, GA. The ITC cultivates future Prophetic Problem Solvers in partnership with five Christian denominations, three of which are historically Black faith traditions: Baptist, African Methodist Episcopal, Christian Methodist Episcopal, United Methodist, and Church of God in Christ as well as one at-large constituency that represents ten additional denominations, the Selma T. and Harry V. Richardson Ecumenical Fellowship. The ITC is the only graduate theological center that prepares leaders for such a wide swath of the African American faith community. ITC graduates enter professional careers in the church, academia, chaplaincy, public service and nonprofit leadership. The ITC is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and The Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS).
