Posted By: Anita Ginsburg on November 24, 2021

There will come a point where you are no longer eligible to be on your parentís insurance. Usually, this is when you turn 26, though there may be some exceptions. When this happens, you may be scrambling trying to figure out what to do because you donít want to be without health insurance for too long. Fortunately, there are plenty of options available to you when you are figuring out your first insurance plan after getting off of your parentsí insurance.

Find Out if Your Employer Offers Insurance

If you are currently employed, then thereís a good chance that your employer may offer health insurance. In some cases, they may actually cover a portion of the premium each month. You can find out more information about your insurance options by talking to the human resources department at your place of employment.

Get the Assistance of a Health Insurance Guide

For those that want assistance finding health insurance, a health insurance guide is a great option. They can provide assistance with everything from finding a plan to enrolling in one. They wonít charge you anything for their services since insurance companies already pay them. By using a health insurance guide, like Optimized Health Plans, you can easily navigate all of the insurance options that are available to you.

Purchase a Policy Through Your School

If you are a college student, your school may be able to get health insurance through your school. These policies often donít cost a lot, but they also donít always provide a lot of coverage either. However, they can provide you with a temporary solution until you can find better insurance coverage.

Look Into Options on the Health Insurance Marketplace

The health insurance marketplace often has a variety of different products available to consumers that are in need of insurance. If you donít make a lot of money, you may be able to qualify for a subsidy that will lower the amount of money that you have to pay in premiums each month as well. This is a good choice for those that want to look at a lot of different options before choosing an insurance policy.

While getting off of your parentsí insurance can be overwhelming, you do have options. Just make sure that you choose a new insurance plan as soon as possible to ensure that you donít have to deal with any issues getting coverage just because you waited too long to find an insurance policy.
