HBCU Signing Day
Posted By: Karen Leach on May 31, 2022 The HBCU Greatness organization announced that HBCU Signing Day recognizing local students that have selected a historically Black college and University (HBCU) to further their education will take place on June 4, 2022, from 9:00 am to 12:30 am at Columbia High School in South Orange, New Jersey. Traditionally, HBCUs produce many of the country’s top executives, doctors, actors and scientists and this year, thousands of students, including hundreds of local students, will call an HBCU home for the next four years. HBCU Signing Day is the brainchild of William S. Parrish, Jr, founder of HBCU Greatness and President of North Jersey Chapter Hampton Alumni Association. “During this age of diversity and inclusion it's critical that we highlight and celebrate the pride, legacy and culture of the Historically Black College and University community and welcome the newest members into this elite club.” Like the national letter of intent high school athletes use to acknowledge their commitment to their selected college, HBCU Signing Day requires our students to sign a pledge agreeing to work hard, study intensively, have fun and stay safe during their college years. Additionally, alumni from Hampton, Howard, and Morehouse to name a few, will be on hand to serve as panelists giving a first-hand testimonial about their college experience as well as offer support to the rising college students. “HBCU Signing Day is a movement of excellence where we provide resources, relationships, and encouragement for our students to succeed academically, socially and beyond,” said Parrish.
