Black College Enrollment Grew as University Registration Fall

Posted By: Kenlaun Mitchell on November 22, 2022 Although post-pandemic enrollments are down at colleges and universities across the country, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are a bright spot. according to a recent study by Leah Mikulich, HBCU enrollments are up. "Today among four-year public and state-related colleges, Lincoln University recorded an overall enrollment drop of 4.5 percent from last year and now is at 1,829,” according to the study. In addition, its “freshman enrollment has dropped by 15.5 percent.” The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center Studies indicate “undergraduate enrollment continued to shrink this Fall, but the decline has slowed to nearly pre-pandemic rates according to preliminary data. Institutions lost 1.1 percent of undergraduates this fall leading to a total two-year decline of 4.2 percent since 2020." HBCUs on the other hand are still continuing to thrive since their enrollment status has risen according to an article by Hailey Burns from Bizjournlas.com “new research from the national Clearinghouse confirms growing interests of HBCUs as higher education enrollment overall continues to declined, undergraduate enrollment at HBCUs has so far increased 2.5% this fall.” This Shows, HBCU enrollment this fall has made a game changer in the college community because of student enrollment increase this fall term.
