Academic Advisor II (11736)
The Academic Advisor II will share duties between the Office of Online and Education Outreach (OEO)/Online Student Services (OSS) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Advising Unit. The selected candidate will provide academic advising services to all students in CAS online academic programs and a population of students in CAS traditional academic programs as well as academic advising services to students in non-CAS (OEO, OSS) online academic programs as needed. Duties for the Academic Advisor II will include but are not limited to:
-Approve the academic program of study for students.
-Provide ongoing course registration for students in fully online academic programs.
-Provide innovative academic guidance and assistance for students through short-term and long-term academic planning, course recommendations based on the academic program of study, and appropriate solutions for enhancing student academic progress.
-Disseminate accurate, current curricular information about the academic programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, including major and minor requirements, transfer credit evaluation of new and continuing students, and degree audits for graduating students.
-Assist students in progression toward the appropriate degree by identifying options to satisfy degree requirements, including recommendations for amendments or petitions to a student's academic program of study.
-Perform administrative tasks which support advising duties and the progression of the student toward graduation such as maintain and manage appropriate academic records.
-Provide students with appropriate university resources to foster academic and student success.
-Serve as liaison between Online Student Services, online academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Academic Advising, and the Office of the Registrar.
-Provide assistance with recruitment efforts and events in the both the Office of Online and Education Outreach and College of Arts and Sciences, and meets with prospective students about the online academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences.

This position is result of an emergent need for advising support for prospective and continuing students in fully online academic programs. This Advisory position is significantly different from existing Academic Advisor roles due to the nature of service required to successfully recruit and retain post-traditional students. The Academic Advisor II will require the selected candidate to take an “on call” mindset with an openness to working outside of the traditional SIUE office hours and in a highly virtual and flexible manner. The selected candidate will also support all of the educational policies of SIUE and the College of Arts and Sciences, and help students understand academic and university policies and procedures.

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the department. Due to the professional needs of this position, occasional evening and weekend hours maybe required.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Academic Program within the College of Arts and Sciences, or closely related field is required.
-At least three years working full-time in the field of academic advising.
-Knowledge of college student development, academic advising theory and the college environment.
-Knowledge of student support services available to college students.
-Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and personal rapport with diverse populations.
-Ability to demonstrate administrative and organizational skills .
-Ability to use computerized student information systems, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office software.
-Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience supporting students in online courses and/or programs.
-Ability to demonstrate how candidate has assisted students with the adjustment to college-level expectations.
-Competency to understand the specific needs of adult/non-traditional students who seek to complete online degree completion programs.
