The Medical Lab Tech 2 performs routine clinical pathology testing and instrument management of laboratory services under occasional guidance. The Medical Lab Tech 2 has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and the evaluation of the patient’s response to treatment. The Medical Lab Tech 2 applies clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical test results, which leads to quality patient care outcomes.

MLS or MLT Categorical Equivalent Certification and Medical Technologist or Technician Licensure in the state of Tennessee. Allowed 120 days to obtain State of Tennessee categorical equivalent license. Considered 'in training' prior to license approval and 1 year of relevant work experience
License as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, generalist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or categorical, or
• Successful completion of CAHEA or NAACLS accredited medical laboratory science program or BS degree, or AS degree from an accredited institution with major in a biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, or Equivalent education and experience per CLIA and the Tennessee Medical Laboratory Board (1200-067-01-.22) for personnel performing high complexity testing, and ASCP or AMT medical laboratory scientist generalist, medical laboratory technician, or categorical certification, or equivalent certification. Allowed 120 days to obtain State of Tennessee license. Considered ‘in training’ prior to license approval.
• Prior diagnostic laboratory benchwork with high volumes and demanding turnaround times in an academic medical center or teaching hospital
