About This Position

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 1. This position will

function as a part of Dr. Nirupa Chaudhari's exciting and productive research team studying molecular and functional neuroscience for the sense of taste. See:

The Research Associate 1 will be responsible for molecular neuroscience techniques such as in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, confocal and wide-field fluorescence microscopy, maintenance of transgenic mouse strains, as well as general lab management.

Specific duties and responsibilities for this position will include:

manage colonies of transgenic mouse strains (includes designing efficient breeding schedules, genotyping, maintaining pedigree records and inventory).

carry out immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization projects (includes wide-field and confoc
al
microscopy, documenting results, keeping comprehensive electronic and selected paper records). Experimental design and interpretation will be in consultation with Supervisor.

report progress to Supervisor frequently and at key decision points; present findings to lab group at weekly lab meetings.

lab maintenance (includes managing inventory, ordering supplies, keeping records, etc.)

provide technical support to other investigators in the lab when requested (e.g. animal handling, phenotyping etc.)

train student workers/ new researchers and help with supervising them.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. or B.A. in Biological Sciences, preferably with courses in cell/molecular
bio
logy, neuroscience, genetics, and laboratory experience in RT PCR, immunohistochemistry, microscopy.

No experience required; however prefer experience in a research laboratory setting. Experience in the following would be most useful: general molecular biology methods, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy.

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
