The Department of Surgery is currently seeking a Research Associate 1. The Research Associate 1 supports research activities under the direction of principle investigator and other lab personnel such as Postdoctoral associates and Sr. Research Associate or above. The candidate is expected to contribute to basic and applied research activities by assisting with experiments, interpret research protocols and procedures, assisting with lab management tasks such as upkeep of the lab, ordering supplies, overseeing rodent colony management etc. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by individual researchers.

  • Animal Husbandry, maintenance of animal colony, breeding, weaning, tail clipping, genotyping including PCR and data maintenance.

  • Coordination with laboratory members for preparing and scheduling mouse experiments.

  • Work collaboratively within team setting with scientists and post-doctoral associates and provide technical assistance to lab members as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in laboratory upkeep including operating dishwashers and autoclave, equipment maintenance, restocking supplies and performing inventory.

  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment and supplies.

  • Keeps abreast of the latest literature in the field, searches for references to technical problems and keeps up-to-date with the methods and techniques related to the specific field of research.

  • Record and evaluate data in accordance with methods requested.

  • Technical proficiency, judgment and organizational skills are required in order to effectively manage a significant and challenging workload.

  • Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous material, including biological and chemical materials, or may be located in areas where such materials are used and the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols will be required.

  • The position is partly located in a facility that requires wearing shoes, clothing and hair protections before entering and wearing respiratory protection equipment.
