Job Description
Medical Technologist (Per Diem)
The Department of Surgery is currently seeking a Medical Technologist. The incumbent in this position follows all safety precautions and regulatory rules to safeguard patient confidentiality.

Verifies identification of specimens with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens safely and carefully. Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, and verification; as applicable.

Performs and verifies quality-control testing, according to the procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording. Perform High Complexity Tests adhering to approved standard operating procedures

Uses Specific Test– Analysis Software for raw data analysis and assign the results accordingly. Analyzes the results of testing and interpret results. Uses professional judgment to accept, repeat the procedure, perform reflex test(s), or reject unacceptable results. Will analyze bodily fluids including blood, serum, and plasma, to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.

Will be responsible for analyses and reporting test results via electronic means. The medical technologist will work in accredited laboratory facilities and will be required to adhere to the highest laboratory standards.

Participates in Proficiency Testing, Instrument Correlation, Method Comparison, and / or Validation Studies, as assigned. Meets deadlines for these other projects/assignments. Assumes lead duties and acts as a resource to staff. Orients and trains employees on laboratory techniques and operations, as assigned. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Bachelor’s / Associate’s Degree in relevant field.

Certification and Licensing:

Florida Medical Technologist License is required.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience desired but not required.
