Assistant Professor
The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
(https://biology.charlotte.edu/) seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning
August 15th, 2022. Required qualifications for this position include: a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or
related fields with expertise in working at the interface of biology and the environment including studying
interactions between any organismal systems, taxonomic groups or biological systems and the
environment; proficiency in the discipline by a record of postdoctoral training and peer-reviewed
publications; potential to secure extramural funding; as well as commitment to teach and mentor a diverse
student population at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Special consideration will be given to
applicants who use state-of-the-art genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and/or metabolomic approaches.
Desired qualifications are previous teaching and mentoring experience, evidence that the candidate has
promoted diversity through outreach to the community, and a commitment to working with diverse
students, faculty, and staff.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded,
research program including students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the
teaching mission of Biological Sciences through instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses.

The department supports BA, BS, MS and PhD programs with a diverse body of faculty and students,
with multiple hands-on training opportunities. The department is fully committed to providing an

and inclusion. Research affinity groups within the department include Host-Microbe Interactions,
Genome Integrity, and Biomolecular Structure and Function that are part of a larger effort to build
research programs within a central theme of Integrated Health and Environmental Research that
interconnect with other related academic units including Chemistry, Physics & Optical Science,
Geography & Earth Sciences, Mathematics, and Bioinformatics.

houses 21 departments in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and
mathematics, and military sciences, as well as 28 applied research centers and interdisciplinary
