Job Description

Position Summary

  • Schneider Electric is growing its digital offer and aims at becoming the market leader in this field. Part of that mission is to provide a consistent and high-quality customer experience across all of its digital products.
  • The Quartz Design System is a shared platform implementing and supporting the branding and design guidelines at scale. It provides documentation, Figma libraries, HTML custom element, and web component libraries to hundreds of designers and developers.
  • We are growing the Quartz core team to support further Quartz adoption and maintenance. Our team is cross-disciplinary, including designers, developers, technical writers, and a product manager. Our team and our users are distributed across the globe, mainly working remotely and asynchronously, with the mindset of open-source projects.
  • We are looking for a lead front-end developer that has solid experience with web development and the web ecosystem in general.
  • You will be working with designers and developers to build and maintain the libraries belonging to the Quartz Design System and the tooling around those libraries.
  • As a lead developer, you will conduct any necessary research and provide recommendations about the technologies and the standards used to build and maintain the design system. You work closely with the design system manager to make strategic decisions and set priorities. You also supervise and support the other developers to ensure the work meets the expected standards.
  • We're using a continuous integration/delivery pipeline based on the GitHub Cloud platform. Prior experience with a similar toolchain is mandatory.
  • As more than a hundred projects are using Quartz, we strive for high standards in everything we do. Code quality, reliability, and performance should be your top concerns. Web accessibility is also among our priorities.
  • You will also support our community of developers and designers using Quartz in their products, so we expect you to be open-minded, kind, and supportive and communicate with people from various backgrounds and cultures.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and make recommendations
  • Supervise and support other developers
  • Build and maintain the HTML custom element and components libraries
  • Build and maintain the hybrid mobile components library
  • Develop and maintain automated tests for the libraries
  • Develop and maintain demo apps and tools
  • Setup and maintain the CI/CD pipeline
  • Proactively inform designers of technical aspects that could impact the design decisions
  • Provide support to our developer community through multiple channels
  • Contribute to the user documentation website

  • Proficient in web markup (HTML5, CSS3) and the TypeScript language
  • Proficient in Git version control
  • Proficient in multiple JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue, Stencil, and Svelte.
  • Proficient in cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
  • Some understanding in the HTML custom elements standard
  • Some understanding of accessibility in the web ecosystem
  • Some understanding of The GitHub environment: general UI, GH Actions, GH Packages
