Job Description
Lecturer, Biomedical Informatics
The Department of BioHealth Informatics, Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing (SoIC) at IUPUI, invites applicants for a Lecturer appointment in the Bioinformatics and Biomedical Informatics Programs. Exceptional instructors are being sought to join our fast-growing department.

We seek candidates in all areas of Bioinformatics and Biomedical Informatics. By strengthening or complementing the faculty research in the department, the ideal candidates will use creative, innovative approaches and technologies to address fundamental BHI challenges with broader societal impact, and have the potential to leverage the strengths of the School of Informatics and Computing, including the Polis Center, the Collaborative AI Institute established at the IUPUI Campus level, the unique location in downtown Indianapolis, interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and nation-wide leadership in the health and life sciences. The responsibilities of the position include teaching in the Graduate program in Bioinformatics and Undergraduate program in Biomedical Informatics Programs, developing courses for the traditional classroom setting, computer labs, and for online education; help setting program goals, developing and continually updating the curriculum and training activities; contributing to the recruitment and marketing of the program; interviewing, evaluating and advising students; engaging in scholarly activity; serving as a member of the school and departmental committees; maintaining current knowledge in the field through active participation in professional organizations, collaboration, practice and research; and serving on professional committees. The appointment can begin as early as August 1, 2022 on the IUPUI campus but will remain open until filled.

As the stateís premier urban research institution, IUPUI is committed to being a welcoming campus community that reflects and enacts the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We seek candidates who will not only enhance our representational diversity but whose research, teaching, and community engagement efforts contribute to diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUPUI condemns racism in all its forms and has taken an anti-racist stance that moves beyond mere statements to interrogating its policies, procedures, and practices. We hope to identify individuals who will assist in our mission to dismantle racism so that everyone has the opportunity to succeed at IUPUI.

IU offers an exciting track for advancement for non-tenure track faculty devoted to teaching: Lecturer faculty who meet school and campus criteria may apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer and even, ultimately, Professor of Teaching. See the schoolís criteria here and the IUPUI Faculty Guide for more information. Promotion requires documented evidence that the candidate has met IUPUI, school and departmental standards. Indiana University offers a competitive and wide-ranging array of benefits to full time faculty, including health, dental and life insurance, retirement contribution and tuition assistance. An overview of these is available at https://hr.iu.edu/benefits/neweeo/prof-index.html.
Qualifications & Requirements
