Advanced Therapies (ATx) comprises facilities located in both the US and Italy, offering end-to-end Microbial Manufacturing, Cell and Gene Therapy, and mRNA CDMO services from process and analytical development to clinical and commercial supply of plasmids, cell or gene therapy, and vaccines

Position summary:

The General Manager will play an integral role in significantly expanding the Pharma Services Group (PSG) Advanced Therapies (ATx) business while fulfilling the demand for cell therapy therapeutics on behalf of our vast customer base. This role will also play a key role in growing and organizing our global footprint within the rapidly expanding Contract Developing and Manufacturing (CDMO) services industry. They will strategically deploy internal capabilities to deliver impressive results using a combination of exceptional awareness of external market forces and a deep understanding of our customer’s needs. In addition, this individual will work across the ATx network to provide support and leadership critical to identifying process improvement opportunities and delivering solutions to such challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

The General Manager leads the site’s leadership team and will collaborate with their General Manager peers, using the assets of the entire network for the good of the business. The General Manager will harness the vision to improve current and future commercial opportunities to deliver growth, market leadership and profitability goals for the Cell Therapy CDMO business unit.

The qualified individual will have P+L responsibility and will and partner closely with Commercial Operations, Human Resources and Finance to ensure commercial/people/financial targets are set and achieved. The position is of high visibility, both in the company and in the industry, and the GM will be responsible for delivering on the promise of ground-breaking living therapeutic medicines. The main priority will be rapidly building and scaling the sites, teams and capabilities that will realize the business potential.

Performance will be delivered by leading and collaborating with the senior leadership team to deliver the technical capability and outcomes with the highest degree of positive customer experience whilst also ensuring compliance, quality, and profitability. This role balances the strategic aims with operational realities in terms of growth, competitiveness, differentiation, client centricity, and people leadership. The General Manager is the link: the one who orchestrates the sites’ overall performance and is responsible for thinking and acting above site level as to influence the best overall outcome for the global enterprise. Qualifications:

The General Manager for Cell Therapy will be an outstanding leader with strong general management and leadership skills and a depth of manufacturing production experience who has the drive and determination to take ownership and drive performance of the business and customers. They have a consistent record of driving operational performance and leading a team that meets the clients’ needs in a timely and effective manner, building positive relationships with the customer and driving high levels of satisfaction. Have had responsibility for the profitability of two sites by directing the overall business operations within the sites including: product quality, delivery, client service and relations, financial performance (revenue and operating profit), engineering, supply chain, employee relations, EH&S and product development.

  • 12+ years in the Pharma industry experience in a direct operations role or can demonstrate equivalent, knowledge, experience and business insight. Cell Therapy manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Consistent experience in Quality Assurance and business finance are considered a plus. Can demonstrate equivalent knowledge / training

  • Masters OE / WCM / Lean Manufacturing tools & techniques

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MS in Life science or engineering subject area preferred

  • MA Organizational Effectiveness or MBA preferred

  • Business and Financial acuity
