Job Description
Sustainability Technical Program Manager
As the environmental challenges facing the world grow, so too has Microsoft’s commitment to ensuring that the company’s activities are in line with the best available science and the expectations of leading stakeholder communities. Microsoft’s Environmental Sustainability (ES) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company – engaging with business groups to set goals related to reductions in the environmental impacts of business operations and positive environmental outcomes resulting from technology and policy development.

We have a lot of innovative and challenging work to complete in this area, so we need a strong Sustainability Technical Program Manager to join our team and take on these challenges directly and in collaboration with others.

We are looking for a Program Manager that is technically strong, excited about new challenges, comfortable with ambiguities, and willing to take on larger scope and ownership.

Responsibilities

Technical Program Managers are focused on improving our technology solutions and programs. You work collaboratively with teammates to ensure our products and programs exceed customer expectations. You communicate throughout the process to understand progress towards delivery, technical challenges, and to provide clarity on customer needs using a data driven approach. You will be expected to demonstrate an ability to learn and adopt relevant new technologies, tools, methods, and processes to leverage in your programs. As a Sustainability Technical Program Manager, you are dedicated to helping Microsoft achieve its commitments to ensuring the company’s activities are in line with the best available science and expectations of leading stakeholder communities.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of professional experience in sustainability program management, development, and design working on high availability systems, or related area
  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Data Warehouse, and reporting frameworks, relational or NoSQL database experience, test automation
  • Familiarity with Technical PM methodologies, e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, or Kanban
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Science, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Math, or other related disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of technology and associated operational environmental impact
  • Experience managing and executing projects in a complex organizational environment and working on several diverse projects simultaneously
  • A proven track record of partnering with multiple cross-functional teams
  • Ability to learn and grasp concepts quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
