Assistant Professor in Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease
About the Job
Primary research responsibilities will be to develop an independent program of research in the areas listed above that dovetails with and expands upon the expertise represented among current faculty. It is expected that the successful candidates will both lead their own research efforts and collaborate with other faculty as co-investigators on new grant initiatives. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching courses within the PhD or MPH programs in Epidemiology, or the MS program in Clinical Research. Advising masters, doctoral and post-doctoral students is also expected.

The Division provides a rich and collaborative environment for the investigation of cardiovascular disease and related areas, in one of the largest Academic Health Centers in the U.S. Current Division research in cardiovascular epidemiology includes a robust blend of observational studies (e.g., ARIC, MESA, CARDIA), pharmacoepidemiology and interventional investigations (e.g., mGlide hypertension control RCT, Stand & Move at Work group randomized trial) aimed at improving public health and engaging a multidisciplinary integration of epidemiology, biology and behavioral science. The Division also has a long-standing institutional training grant that supports pre- and post-doctoral training in cardiovascular epidemiology and prevention. University-wide ties exist with the Medical School (e.g., Lillehei Heart Institute, Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology and others). Cross-disciplinary collaborations are encouraged.

About the Department

The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health Division of Epidemiology and Community Health is the largest unit in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. With over 40 primary faculty, over 300 graduate students and approximately $26 million annually in sponsored research grants, the Division plays a major role in the School. The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health has a distinguished record of research and teaching. The educational program includes majors in Epidemiology, Community Health Education, Maternal/Child Health, Public Health Nutrition and Clinical Research. The Division offers programs leading to the MPH, MS and PhD degrees.

Qualifications & Requirements
The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, School of Public Health, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of cardiovascular disease.

We are particularly interested in Epidemiologists (e.g., PhD or MD) who have research and teaching experience in one or preferably more of the following domains:

(1) Biology, etiology and impact of cardiovascular disease or its risk factors
(2) Prevention and risk modeling of cardiovascular disease broadly and particularly in underrepresented and/or diverse populations (e.g., by ethnicity/race, sexual orientation, income)
(3) Clinical epidemiology of cardiovascular disease including outcomes research, guideline and policy implications, pharmacoepidemiology or implementation science
(4) Development of innovative and rigorous research methods applicable to cardiovascular disease

Requirements include an earned academic or professional doctorate. Highly desirable characteristics include evidence of potential for obtaining independent external research funding, teaching epidemiology or clinical research methods in a large and diverse academic institution, effective collaboration, and experience in anti-racist or health equity work.
